Marriage registration
1. Civil Marriage Registration
Procedures and Requirements
The Embassy of Rwanda in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia welcomes Rwandans and other nationalities who wish to solemnize their civil marriage in accordance with Rwandan marriage law. The embassy is officially authorized by the Government of Rwanda to register marriages.
An appointment must be booked to submit a Notice of Marriage at our consular office. Please call +966112055592 to schedule an appointment.
Both parties must appear in person at the consular office to submit the Notice of Marriage.
The Notice of Marriage is a legal preliminary step for civil marriage, where each party must appear before the marriage registrar, declare their legal capacity to marry, and submit required documents.
The fee for this service is 150 Saudi Riyals, payable to the embassy’s bank account.
Both applicants must be at least 21 years old.
You must present your passports as proof of nationality. At least one or both of you must be a Rwandan citizen.
A valid visa or residence permit in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is required.
Both parties must provide a Certificate of Celibacy (proof of being single).
If either party was previously married, original divorce or annulment documents stamped with the official court seal must be provided. If these documents are not in Kinyarwanda or English, a certified translation must be submitted along with the originals.
If you are submitting a divorce notice and, after the divorce, you reverted to your maiden/previous name (different from the name on the final divorce decree), you will need to provide your previous marriage certificate to confirm your original name.
• In the case of widowhood, a death certificate must be provided. If your name does not appear on the death certificate, you will be required to present your previous marriage certificate to confirm your relationship to the deceased.
Additional documents may be requested depending on your circumstances, such as name change documents.
Please Note
On the wedding day, you must bring at least two witnesses ready to attend the ceremony and sign the register (if a translator is needed, they must also act as a witness).
The marriage cannot be completed until all legal procedures are fulfilled. The Notice of Marriage must be submitted in person to the civil registrar by both partners. No one else is allowed to do this on your behalf.
• Proof of deposit of 40.00 Saudi Riyals into the Embassy of Rwanda’s bank account is required.
